I was talking about this to a friend who has an unlocked iphone in its earlier avatar and both of us felt that the old iphone, unlocked, minus the 3g frills could have chewed up the market in India - if it was allowed to. There are a lot of people with that phone here - here is where Apple lost an opportunity. It is debatable whether they saw the Indian market as an opportunity, pity if they did not, but I see that as a chance they missed - badly.
